Day 01: Datong(L)
Be picked up from train station by English speaking tour guide and private vehicle in the morning. Then you will visit the Yungang Grottoes,Huayan Monastery and Nine Dragon Screen with lunch included.After the tour,transferred back to your hotel(booked by us) in Datong.
--Yungang Grottoes: The three main sites in China that are famous for their stone sculpture are Dunhuang, Longmen and Yungang. Among these, the Yungang grottoes are considered first among equals, for their tremendous size, ancient history, and relatively complete state of preservation.
--Huayan Monastery: Built during the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125), the Huayan Monastery is the largest and best preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty in existence in China.
--Nine Dragon Screen: Built over 600 years ago, it is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China today. It is three times larger than that in Beihai Park, Beijing.
Day 02: Datong-Taiyuan (B,L)
Be picked up from from your hotel on the morning.On the way to Taiyuan,you will visit the Hanging Temple and Sakyamuni Wooden Pagoda at Fuoguang Temple in Yingxian County (Yingxian Wooden Pagoda). After arrive in Taiyuan,then visit the Jinci Temple.Be transferred to hotel(booked by us) after the tour.
--Hanging Temple: It has a history of more than 1,400 years. About 40 buildings survived are scattered halfway up the mountain on the cliff face or slopes, from 26 to 50 meters above the foot of the mountain. The temple buildings which seem to be hanging in midair on the cliffs are unique in structure.
--Sakyamuni Wooden Pagoda: It is the oldest and highest wooden structure in China with about 900 years of history and is regarded as the "First Pagoda in the World" and a gem in the architectural field.
--Jinci Temple: It was built in the Bei Wei Dynasty (386-534) in memory of Shuyu, the second son of Zhouwu kingdom. The temple is a famous garden of ancient buildings, in compound with hall, pavilions, and towers. The cypress, the long-life Spring and the painted clay figures of maids in the Saintly Mother's Hall are reputed as Jinci Temple's 'three wonders'.
Day 03: Taiyuan-Pingyao (B,L)
Be picked up from from your hotel on the morning.Then you will visit Former Residence of Family Chang with lunch. Walk along the Ancient City Wall after arrive at Pingyao. After the tour,Be transferred to Taiyuan train station for departure.
--Former Residence of Family Chang: It is the largest mansion of all the mansions of Shanxi merchants in Shanxi. Chang's Mansion is located 40 km to the northeast of Pingyao. The hosts of Chang's Mansion, the Chang family, were among the well-known Shanxi businessmen in the Qing Dynasty. Actually it is a splendid group of constructions of northern folk houses in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
--The city wall of Pingyao: It was originally built using rammed earth, and was rebuilt with bricks in 1370 during the reign of Emperor Hong Wu of the Ming Dynasty.The wall testifies to the profound influence of Confucianism in this region, as the 3,000 embrasures on the wall are said to represent the number of disciples of Confucius, and the 72 small watchtowers represent his 72 top disciples.
